About Vulango
Built by someone who got tired of watching small businesses lose to their own admin.
I grew up in Zululand. Spent most of my career in software — building systems for large organisations that had the budget and the teams to get exactly what they needed.
Meanwhile, the solo practitioners, the small firms, the two-partner accounting practices — they were running on tools from the nineties, or cobbling together spreadsheets and WhatsApp threads to manage their businesses. Not because they didn't know better. Because nobody built for them.
Corporates get the custom CRM. Enterprises get the workflow automation. Small businesses get told to use the same off-the-shelf product the big guys do and just "work around" the parts that don't fit.
Vulango exists to change that. The name comes from isiZulu ("vula ngango" — open the gate) and isiXhosa ("vulango" — opening). That's the idea: opening the door to tools that were previously out of reach.
We start with legal practices because that's where I saw the sharpest gap — and where the right tool makes the most immediate difference to someone's working life. But the mission is bigger than that.
Mission
“We vula the door — building software that gives every small business the tools to compete, grow, and own their future.”
What we believe
Honest by default
We say what we mean, build what we promise, and charge what's fair. If something isn't ready, we say so. If a tool isn't the right fit for you, we'll tell you.
Built for the underdog
Every decision we make is filtered through the question: does this help the small player compete? If not, we don't build it.
Rooted here
We're South African, building for South Africa first — with the world in mind. The problems we solve are real, local, and specific.
